Overcoming Writers Block

Writers often come upon what the industry knows as, Writer's Block'. Sometimes many things keep us from writing, such as: the telephone will ring or the the dog is start barking which makes it hard to focus. Writers often have several things going through their heads at all time, which can hinder their writing or even getting words on paper. I want to give you some basic tips to help you overcome writers block. 1. Keep a list of things you want to talk about in your story. It can be a sheet of brainstorming ideas or can be more detailed such as in an outline. Either way gives you points to consider in your manuscript. Sometimes writers will get distracted by trying to rewrite or edit as they go, but this is not a good idea. Try to finish a rough draft before doing any editing at all. 2. Try to find a quiet place away from everyone and everything that could distract you. Even if this is only for an hour or two. Even busy mothers can find some time in their day to write. Avoid procrastination; when you have something in your head to write, then get it on paper quickly. 3. Writers block usually begins with stress. So if you are worried about getting certain things done during the day, jot them down on paper. That way you can check them off as you go and you won't be stressing yourself out about it. 4. Take breaks during the day from your writing. Don't stay at the computer desk all day. Make time to just relax and breathe. Reward yourself with something such as a snack and a few "you" moments. 5. If you have writer's block and cannot come up with anything, look around you. Most writers write about things they know. They might write their first story about their own lives; them growing up unto married women or men with children. 6. Set goals for your writing, such as: writing 500 words a day. Even if you plan on writing more than that, it can help you move forward instead of lag behind.

7. Hire a writers coach to keep you on track. We all need some encouragement from time to time; no better way to write than to have someone giving you a little nudge and encouraging you to write. Often writing coaches can give you a little insight on how to continue with your story when you are at a loss for words.
